...tings to do
My to-do list for the next 6 months...
- buy car
- buy house
- become a dad
Crikey! Life just got rather interesting.
I wish I could just skip forward and have it all done, out of the way. The suspense is killing me, and we've only just started. But instead I'm about to drive to some 'affordable' suburb to inspect some 'affordable' crap house in the 'affordable' price range $400,000 - $500,000.
We'll be right. Compared to many, we're quite fortunate to even be in that position. But I wish we could just spin around the loungeroom to this, and have it magically happen without even having to think about it.

Well you've got one out of three in the bag! I love that $400000 is 'affordable'! I work for Landcom, NSW Government developer and that's pretty much their evaluation as well . . building 'affordable' housing so that Sydney's young and hopefuls can spend the next 30 years in debt! Crazy. Be quick . . Homeowner's grant disappears in December!
....and get mortgage with a 'frozen' interest rate for 3-5 years. At least that way you'll know what you have to pay each fortnight and not have to start sweating at the phrase, "The Reserve Bank is about to lift interest rates to..."
Why a new car? Get one that's three years old and has enough space for a baby seat and a pram. Come to think of it, we've still got the three year old station wagon we bought for Sapphire's arrival ten years ago!
It'll all happen soon enough. Try and enjoy the process, hard as that might seem.
I hope you're feeling better. Early morning blogging is enough to make anyone feel overwhelmed!
Baino-It's a pretty dicey game these days, trying to get a wee bit of property in an Australian city. It's a shame. We'll get the reduced grant, but I resent it because I wish the grant had gone away long ago as it has just artificially inflated the market, in my unqualified opinion... actually, someone elses opinion I stole.
KL-To fix or not is a tricky one. Rates are going up but by how much in 3 years? If we fix nowish, we would be paying an extra $400 a month than if we didn't fix up to a rise a 2%. You can only fix at 7%at the moment(I can't believe I'm even talking about this stuff...what happened to me???)
I didn't actually mean "new" car, but "newer" car. I forgot that people can actually afford new cars.
One that's a bit more tall mum friendly than the 2-star safety rating, 3 door, low to the ground, Korean deathtrap in current use. An 8 year old Toyota sedan is looking good.
Thankyou Meva. There is actually a tremendous excitement underlying it all. And almost completely better, its 12:30am!
